Boom oom ohm. A train car smacks into the other in the distance. Not very hard, but enough. It sounds like the struck was an empty metal rectangular type, its walls now vibrating after the collision. Its not quite a sound however, but its close to 20 vibrations per second, more like 10Hz, or maybe 7Hz – so I feel as much of it as I had heard.

So there is this energy travelling out from the source in waves until it collides with me. I detect it and start to think about it. I can absorb that energy with my various sensors. I’m wondering if energy like this, as it compresses and stretches some small organism, can generate life. The wiggling mass is matter, and this in turn at some scale becomes energy again. Energy to matter to energy conversion is at the heart of Physics. This is an irresistable topic to think about.

As the thud in the distance subsides I imagine the tiny crab zoea, thousands of them, each vibrating back and forth, up and down, side to side slap! uh – at about 7 Hz. An amazing creature. Their ‘Mom’ having been signalled to release them from under her flap uh, pleon, by possibly the random disordered vibrations slowly unifying to one harmonious 7 Hz unity within the matrix of her sheets of eggs.

So energy, energy and matter - this is what I’ll blog about next time. Maybe with a diagram.

to be continued…

One third of our life is spent asleep; of this time a fraction is spent dreaming. Being asleep is quite different from wakefulness, the primary reason being the disconnection of the mind from the body at the brainstem. This barrier keeps most of us from flailing about or taking a nice stroll while we are dreaming.

The ‘potential’ problem is that we have trouble differentiating objects when they are alike, or even when similar in only some aspect. I believe I always have a body of some sort when dreaming, which leads me to believe that I have some memories thereof; some sort of construct within my mind’s eye of a body. This means that one’s wakeful perception of the body and one’s dream perception are exactly in inverse opposition to one another.

So if you wake up while dreaming of a physical experience, you could potentially be short-circuiting yourself; possibly inducing even a heart attack. So this is one thing that occurs when asleep; again, your spine is diconnected from your brain. Any connections by your mind to the body are turned back. In short, if one is truly half-asleep during the day (or slightly conscious while dosing) there could be a very real danger of a short-circuit to the mind/body. It also seems that the more you try to remember a dream, the harder it is to recall. Could this be due to the mirror-like differences between the sleeping and waking states? Its as though the awake version (opposite) would be erasing the asleep connections of memories.

The second thing I notice about the dreaming mind is that all sense of time dissappears. You can notice this while remembering a dream, it does’nt make sense anymore, the scene changes, something happened before this point, no wait that was later…
Time and space impose a sort of order on the waking mind, allowing structure and to make sense of the world. We lose this order in favor of a different one when we sleep. If sleep is truly a time for the brain to chemically rebalance itself from all the order we impose on our poor brain cells during the day, then it makes sense that any inhibitions to chemical and electrical rebalacing would be shut down.
This allows for brain cells to fire as they need to, associating by some similarity only. Some image from today, perhaps unnoticed even, could link with some similar image twenty years ago. So, this wonderful dreamtime world, making perfect sense while dreaming it, is completely fractured by the order of time imposed on by the waking mind.

Aside: its also possible that emotions, being more closely tied with chemistry and the body itself (than electrical patterns of thoughts) could be powering the intensity and vividness of dreams.
Aside 2: our world is the environment of the body, our body is the environment of its chemistry, the chemistry is the environment of the electromagnetic patterns.

Anyway, just a short thought here for now, so uh, don’t get caught half-asleep!

I should be posting a lot on this topic later, including the mind/body relationship, the role of the brainstem in sleep, and oodles more. Most professionals like to dismiss activities of the sleeping mind as not relevant, however I believe there is much to be learned about this time of electrochemical rebalancing for the brain. I believe in order to do this the brain does without the order-imposing restrictions of space and time. It could be like a kind of leisure time for the individual brain cells, free to associate in a relaxed state without the impositions of our awake mind.

Anyway, more posts later, this is a post for old notes, to be used as a storage space for scans before I lose or toss these old papers.

Below are two images from this site showing nearly the entire 360 degrees of the sky, one in infrared and the other in the Hydrogen-alpha region. (Infrared images allow the detection of light otherwise obscured by dust, H-alpha is a specific red visible spectral line created by hydrogen with a wavelength of 6562.8 angstroms.)

I had never seen our galaxy in this way before, (H-alpha) and find it fascinating to see many bubbles of what appear to be hyper-nova or gallery burst remnants many hundreds of light-years across. They look similar to shells of matter cast off by dying stars, or the spherical caverns carved out of nebulas by new stars within, except on a much much grander scale. I wonder what could have caused these features.

If one was to assume these bubbles to be approximately similar in size, a rough map of the galaxy could be plotted fairly easily. Below is the best map to-date of the Milky Way.
